I became vegan about two years ago after learning of the type of abuse animals go through in farms and slaughterhouses and how I was contributing to it. I felt that didn't align with how I am as a person. I grew up in an abusive household, experienced a lot of violence growing up and the idea that I was paying for violence towards other creatures given my own experiences felt hypocritical.

Before vegan activism I was involved in activism in other areas such as gay marriage, queer rights, welfare rights, refugees and other things. I went into vegan activism because it is something that individuals have direct control over, so its easier to change and has a greater impact in my opinion.

I discovered the Cube of Truth though a friend and attend other vigils and protests. It gives me a sense of satisfaction and purpose in my life. I feel like I'm having a positive influence on the world and helps me cope with Vystopia. For me, I suppose it is knowing that I'm trying to make change in this society so that more people realise the truth of what goes on in the animal agriculture industry.

As for veganism in the Illawarra, I think its becoming more acceptable and well known however still taboo as it challenges a lot of peoples current actions.

I would like to see the veganism take a more intersectional approach. Due to the current culture, a lot of people don't feel safe joining vegans in their demonstration. When I do point this out it is dismissed, I believe because privilege is often blind to those that have it.
