Felicia

Sweden

Six years have passed since Felicia Wickbom decided to replace the meat on her plate with tofu and vegetables.

Last year she decided to stop consuming any animal based products, and joined the 3% of the Swedish population who identified as vegan in 2017.

The twenty-three year old is originally from Sweden, but moved to Wollongong in 2016 to do a bachelors degree in International studies at UOW.

There are a various of reasons why people decide to go vegan, but for Felicia it was a mix between caring for the environment, the love for animals, but also stomach issues that all of a sudden disappeared when she stopped eating dairy and meat.

Felicia finds it easier to live as a vegan in Wollongong than back home in Stockholm.

She thinks that people are more aware when is comes to veganism in Australia.

She has only experienced once that a restaurant in Wollongong didn’t have any vegan options on the menu, while she in Stockholm several times has had to ask the restaurant if they could make her vegan friendly food.

Some of them would then tell her no, we don’t have time for that, and her response would be:

“Is it really that hard to just make a simple salad?"
