Jordan Edwards:
The Vegetarian
Earlier this year data from Roy Morgan Research showed that more than 2 million adult Australians live a meat-free lifestyle, but why do some people only choose to go vegetarian, and not vegan?
Many vegans believe that if you care about the animals and the environment, you should not only stop eating meat, you should go all the way and not wear or consume any animal-based products what so ever.
Jordan Edwards has been vegetarian since he was 12 years old and stopped purchasing animal-based products at supermarkets a few years later.
He first believed that it was only the killing of animals that was wrong, but after looking into the environmental part and the conditions the animals lived under, he decided that he no longer wanted to support the industry in any way.
But he can still not call himself a vegan, as he eats eggs that are produced by his own chickens.
He hasn´t gone vegan because he believes that his chickens are living their best life and that if he doesn’t eat their eggs they’ll go to waste.
To Jordan it´s not about what label you put on it, he believes that actions speak louder than words,
“I don’t really like the term vegan (…) I don’t think it´s about what you can call yourself, I think it´s about what you actually do for the animals”.
