Tara
Dublin, Ireland
At the age of six her parents decided to move across the world. From Wollongong, Australia to Dublin, Ireland.
More than 10 years later Tara Jenkins found her way back to her city of birth.
A year and a half ago she decided that if she wanted to be as healthy as possible the best option was to go vegetarian, which she was for about six months.
She then stopped eating animal-based products and has been vegan ever since.
Even though it was based on health reasons in the beginning, it is now a matter of caring for the animals.
“I knew deep down that it was the right thing to do, so I couldn’t, not be vegan. I couldn’t still have that weighing on my conscience that I was eating a dead animal”
Tara is a passionate activist who participates in animal welfare demonstrations, giving the animals a voice by spreading the word about veganism.
Even though Australia is big on veganism there are still no vegan or vegetarian burger options at big fast food companies such as Maccas and Hungry Jacks, which they have had in Dublin for months.
Still, Tara reckons it is easier to be vegan in Wollongong as people are more open to it, but she still thinks there is room for improvement when it comes to vegan options at restaurants.
